Members of the European Commission visited a few days ago the bee honey production UEB Apícola Holguín company to check the traceability and authenticity of the organic honey produced in this eastern region of Cuba.
During the inspection, it was also verified that there was no adulteration of this product with sugar, that it was not overheated and that the pollen was not discarded when it reaches users. This commission also sought to establish methods of traceability of origin.

The international auditors visited several producers of the more than 150 in Holguin, and the result of the inspection, “was positive, it was a success for the company, thanks to the efforts of the beekeepers who work hard to ensure that the honey is ecological,” commented Fidel Alfonso Sablón, director of UEB Apícola Holguín.
Cuba ranks among the top 15 countries in the world that export organic honey, and Holguín, so far this year, has contributed with more than 135 tons of organic honey, with the most outstanding results in the municipalities of Cueto, Cacocum, Banes and Gibara.
In addition to the honey exported to the European Union, its local and national commercialization is maintained, as wells as the contribution to the Provincial Company of Pharmacies and Optics (FARMOX) for the production of natural medicines.
The annual replacement of queen bees in the hives is one of the strategies to maintain quality genetics in honey production in Holguin, one of the most significant exportable items in agriculture.
The province has seven queen multiplier centers, with more than 14,000 bee hives per year, which contributes to guarantee the renewal of guarantee the renewal of the apiaries.
