In Holguin, the anti-influenza vaccination campaign for 2024 is underway with the aim of preventing serious health complications and reducing mortality due to the Influenza virus in risk groups.
According to the guidelines of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap), from July 15 to August 11, this campaign is being carried out throughout the national territory and began with the pediatric population between six months and one year, 11 months and 29 days of age.
In addition, infants between two and five years, 11 months and 29 days of age who are asthmatic or have an associated pathology will receive the dose.
In due time, each family doctor and nurse practitioner’s office in the territory will summon those who are included in this first vaccination period.
Then, adults identified as at-risk population, such as pregnant women, diabetics, asthmatics, seniors 85 years of age or older, as well as people institutionalized in nursing homes, grandparents’ homes and psycho-pedagogical centers will be covered.
The vaccine will also be given to poultry and livestock workers exposed to the risk of influenza.
Influenza is a contagious respiratory disease caused by influenza viruses that infects the nose, throat and lungs, can cause mild to severe episodes and can sometimes be fatal.
The national immunization program includes vaccination against 13 diseases, eight of the products are developed and produced in the country.
