Hotel Ordoño, Gibara’s architectural jewel marks anniversary

Hotel Ordoño, an architectural jewel of eclectic style from the late 19th century, celebrates 11 years of reopening -after a complex restoration- as a distinctive facility for its exclusivity, comfort and elegance in the maritime city of Gibara, in the province of Holguín.

Belonging to the E Hotels chain of the Cubanacán group, it maintains its four-star category, faithful to its style and period, and has 27 rooms, including one suite and two junior suites, in which modern materials and construction methods were used, capable of offering a product competitive with international tourism standards.

Rosalia Beatriz Pupo Velázquez, director of the Gibara Tourist Complex, commented exclusively to the Cuban News Agency that they are currently betting on new goals in commercial management that favor a longer stay and levels of repetition in the facilities, as well as the satisfaction and renewal of customer experiences.

To this end, she said that they encourage the tour modality through the presentation of cultural programs in the city, walks around the bay, visits to its squares and monuments, excursions to the cave Cueva de los Panaderos and birds watching in one of the most important migratory corridors in the country.

The young director emphasized that this hotel -preferred by guests, mostly nationals, Germans and French- transcends from an autochthonous and high-class cuisine, characterized by the flavor of the paella gibareña, seasoned with the aroma of a hand-rolled cigar in the place where the world knew the tobacco leaf after the arrival of the Spaniards to the island.

Inaugurated on January 12, 2013 by the current Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, in his previous position as head of Tourism, from its terrace bar guests and visitors can appreciate the multiple patrimonial values of the city and the surroundings of the site that Christopher Columbus called Rio de Mares, where the coastline and karst elevations such as the Silla de Gibara stand out.

The development plans foreseen for the municipality are conceived as a gradual process, conceived and made compatible with the territorial authorities, in correspondence with the local development, where the private sector is integrated together with the tourist companies of the State.

The Cubanacán consortium manages the five lodging centers in what is also known as Villa Blanca de los Cangrejos: El Faro, Plaza Colón, Ordoño, Arsenita and, lately, Bahía del Almirante.

Located 36 kilometers north of the capital of Holguin, this coastal city hosts several important cultural events, including the Gibara International Film Festival.
