Leased means in the Cuban province of Holguin alleviated public transportation during 2023, by taking on board more than 11 thousand passengers daily and assuming several urban and suburban routes, affected by the current circumstances of the sector.
Wilmer García Ramírez, director of Empresa Provincial de Transporte Holguín, informed that in order to implement Resolution 207/2021 of this Ministry, which authorized the leasing of underutilized vehicles, 179 means of transport were identified in the territory, of which 103 are currently rented.
The largest amount of this equipment is found in the municipalities of Mayarí and Holguín, where 55 vehicles work every day in the transportation of people, with more incidence in urban and inter-municipal services, he said.
García Ramírez explained that due to the energy contingency that occurred in September, the stability of the operation of these services has been affected, it was necessary to reduce their daily frequency for an alternate one and in others the affectations were more severe.
However, priority is given to routes with more traffic of people and those that connect with important centers such as the Las Baleares Terminal and the three provincial hospitals. In addition, with regard to cargo mobility, this has better fuel insurance, so it has been less affected, he said.
Among the types of vehicles rented in Holguín province are vans, trucks, dredges and Yutong and Diana buses, which participate in 15 of the 21 active routes.
In Holguín, the application of Resolution 207/2021 has had a positive impact in spite of the limitations, since it has not only improved the transportation of cargo and passengers, but has also helped in the recovery of the vehicle park, damaged due to lack of major aggregates, melted engines or high structural deterioration.
