Rehabilitation Programs Prioritized in Holguin

The Modesto Fornaris Psychopedagogical Medical Center in Holguin province is prioritizing the comprehensive rehabilitation of its patients. Amidst the energy crisis that has affected Cuba for several months.

Laritza Linares Expósito, director of the institution, explained to CNA that this program focuses on developing practical life skills. Such as eating, combing hair, and tying shoes.

She emphasized that the center prioritizes the reintegration of its patients into economic and social life. According to each individual’s cognitive abilities.

In addition to physical therapy, the specialist pointed out, the program includes learning trades. Such as rug weaving and practicing artistic expressions, including theater.

Linares Expósito emphasized the ongoing training of the staff to provide personalized, high-quality care. Involving physiatry, orthopedics, neurology, internal medicine, and other specialties.

Furthermore she noted that in recent years, some 20 patients have reintegrated into active social life or general education. One of the achievements of this institution located in the modern part of the city.

The healthcare center has a capacity for approximately 200 patients. It continues operating even amidst the energy crisis caused by the United States’ hostile policies toward Cuba.

Holguin is one of the provinces with the highest number of people with disabilities. Which is why a multisectoral program is being promoted. Integrating education, health, sports, and culture to facilitate social inclusion and reduce architectural barriers.
