The province of Holguin is developing a comprehensive program to support its scientific reserve. As part of its strategies to guarantee doctoral studies in various fields of knowledge.
This is a top priority for the province due to the high rates of population aging. Also with the number of doctors of science over 50 years old still practicing their professions.
Institutions such as the University of Medical Sciences and the scientific societies of Health are implementing a strategy. Aimed at motivating young students to conduct research that qualifies them for doctoral studies. Yanetsy Pérez González, head of the technological innovation department at that institution, told the Cuban News Agency (CNA).
She noted that students have been encouraged from their early years to orient their curricula toward local issues. Such as addressing respiratory diseases or early cancer detection. Within the maternal and child health program, among other key research areas. In this regard, she explained that theoretical events, congresses, debate sessions, and exchange visits are organized to encourage progress in the different thematic areas.

Likewise, the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment has created networks of young researchers in the nickel and communications sectors. As well as award systems, with the aim of stimulating innovation. Argued Alejandro Torres Gómez de Cádiz Hernández, the sector’s territorial delegate.
The scientific reserve in Cuba includes a group of students who, before beginning full-time higher education courses. They receive training focused on their professional development through master’s and doctoral programs, thus ensuring the renewal of personnel.
In Holguin, recruitment is carried out through student scientific events. Also the student assistant program, and other initiatives generated by the universities.
