Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, called from the 11th PCC Plenum for combating bureaucracy. Bringing governance closer to the people’s real problems, and strengthening internal democracy.
The Plenum analyzed unity in the face of aggression, the epidemiological situation, the electrical system, and the fight against corruption. Among other vital issues for the country.
Díaz-Canel reflected on unity, emphasizing that it is “the guarantee that Cuba will continue to be free, independent, and sovereign.” The Head of State insisted on the need to continue intensifying “the ideological, cultural, and communications battle. Defending the truth about Cuba against manipulation and disinformation.” Two elements that the enemy has embraced with “very perverse practices.”
In this regard, he mentioned the harmful content against Cuba that floods social media and that must be confronted more proactively, demonstrating what is being done in the country.
Also the pressures and situations imposed on us by the intensified economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States government, and by media manipulation, are extremely high, he emphasized.
The president insisted on the importance of developing a different work style within the organization he leads. In a direct fight against bureaucracy, pretense, and double standards, promoting participatory collective leadership.
Moreover the cadres must be increasingly better prepared. “Because the problems are very complex and we cannot be improvising.” Díaz-Canel stated, while also calling for “a more decisive and effective fight against corruption.”
Furthermore, Cuba is experiencing a complex epidemiological situation. As a result of the Chikungunya epidemic and the circulation of dengue fever, primarily.
The president stated that there are very objective limitations within the National Health System. But acknowledged that there are also subjective problems related to organization, monitoring, and control of certain situations.
This objective situation affecting the sector means that we must act more proactively and have faster alert systems. So as the population is more vulnerable to any type of illness that may arise, the Cuban president commented.
Another topic of analysis as part of the Political Bureau’s accountability report to the 11th Plenum was the recovery of the National Electrical Power System.
Meanwhile the last few days have been marked by extremely high blackout rates. Which are mainly associated with the loss of generation capacity due to fuel shortages and a lack of installed technology.
The Party plenum received information on progress toward some objectives. Such as the installation of photovoltaic solar parks and the recovery of distributed generation. Regarding the Government Program to correct distortions and revitalize the economy, the President of the Republic emphasized the priority of continuing to work. To ensure the population is aware of it, participates in the debate, and strengthens its content with their input.
“We must be closer to the real problems of the people, be more demanding of our leaders, and more transparent in our relationship with society,” he stated.
The 11th Plenum of the Communist Party was held at the Palace of the Revolution in Havana, connected to all provinces via videoconference.
