A new tourist route now connects the Frank País García International Airport in Holguin with Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Aiming to boost tourism from that market to this renowned northeastern destination in Cuba.
As is customary with new operations in the region, Yuset Vargas Ricardo, the Ministry of Tourism’s delegate in the province, told CNA that a program of activities has been planned to welcome the flight. Coinciding with a key period for the region’s economy and tourism sector.
The new season presents a significant challenge that demands thorough planning and preparation in various areas, from infrastructure to services. To ensure the required quality, a positive experience for visitors, and the sustainability of the destination, she noted.
For his part, Miguel Andrés Peña Peña, general manager of the Holguin airport, explained that the terminal projects approximately 60 international flights during the current peak tourist season.
In addition to the connection with Frankfurt, new flights from the Czech Republic have been added. The service to Moscow, Russia, has been consolidated with a frequency of one flight every ten days. Also flights from Canada have increased, operated by various airlines serving that market.
The airport prepared for the start of the season with maintenance, inspection, and upgrades. The workforce was trained in the use of new systems to handle the passenger flow and improve service to travelers, added Peña Peña.
Vargas Ricardo added that, while there are challenges, there are also opportunities that the sector’s workers are ready to seize. With the goal of showcasing the full potential of Holguin as a tourist destination and guaranteeing the highest quality of service to continue increasing visitor numbers to the northeastern region.
This year, the Frank País García International Airport has operated with 13 airlines serving Canadian and American destinations. A number that has increased with the recent arrival of passengers from European markets to the province’s resorts.
