Due to the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa to its facilities and educational spaces, the University of Holguin is gradually and systematically resuming its teaching activities.
This was reported by Dr. Aniuska Ortiz Pérez, rector of the university. Who noted that the storm impacted both the four main campuses and the 12 municipal university centers and branches. Causing considerable damage to the educational infrastructure.
It was the immediate mobilization and commitment of professors, non-teaching staff, administrators, and students that allowed for rapid progress in the recovery efforts. Thanks to this collective effort, 21 of the 35 daytime degree programs are beginning in-person classes. While the remaining 14 will resume on Monday, November 17th. Meanwhile, the part-time course had already resumed on Saturday the 8th. Reflecting the university’s ability to respond to adverse situations.

Rector Ortiz Pérez emphasized the sense of belonging and resilience of the entire university community as key factors in overcoming this challenge.
