The donation of ozone therapy equipment to the Vladimir I. Lenin General University Hospital is a gesture of solidarity. For which we are grateful to Miguel Sanhuesa, a Chilean resident of Canada.
It will serve as a complementary treatment for some peripheral tumors and other orthopedic locations. Which will positively impact the quality of life of patients requiring these sessions. Also which were discontinued in May of this year due to wear and tear and years of use that caused the previous equipment to break down.
Regarding the motivation that led Miguel Sanhuesa to selflessly donate this equipment, he explained: “I’m bringing some things to the Lenin Hospital because I strongly identify with this Revolution and the Cuban people.
It’s ozone equipment for physiotherapy, and I never thought my Italian friends would donate it. They sent for it from India. The equipment is here, helping the Cuban people. I have a political history; I’m Chilean. Exiled from the Allende government after Pinochet’s military coup. I’m left-wing, one of the leftists, and that’s why I have a strong sympathy for Cuba.”
Various studies agree that ozone therapy has been shown to improve tumor oxygenation. Modulate the immune response, and can act locally to accelerate the healing process in patients with delayed healing after cancer surgery.

According to Victoria Martínez Escalona, the nurse in charge of applying these treatments for more than 15 years. “Patients have come here in wheelchairs and on stretchers because they can’t walk. After using rectal or infiltrated ozone, they see results.
This has proven to be very good. It’s applied to oncology patients who were undergoing radiation and chemotherapy so that the medications and radiation are more effective and less aggressive.
We see up to 60 patients a day. With this new equipment, care will be better. Because when our previous equipment broke down, patients came in constantly to ask because it’s true that results are visible.”
Victoria has worked in the oncology branch since 1979, and since 2010, she has been the nurse in the ozone therapy clinic. She explains that if the treatment is applied rectally, it involves 20 sessions. Lasting four consecutive weeks, and if it’s injected, it lasts approximately three weeks. Work is currently underway to air-condition the facility to ensure it can begin providing services as soon as possible.
In addition to this ozone therapy equipment, Miguel Sanhuesa donated nearly 90 kilograms of medical supplies. Thanks to contributions from other Canadian friends.
He expressed his gratitude to the many people in Canada who have supported him financially. Including David Handson, Raúl Santos, Paula Frander, Ana Paredes, and Leopoldo Salgado. With whom they have contributed supplies to the renowned Holguin healthcare institution.
These gestures are increasing as the hospital giant approaches its 60th anniversary.
