Most of the 1,334 educational institutions in the province of Holguin began the 2025-2026 school year in favorable conditions after a series of maintenance, repairs, and beautification projects. Aimed at promoting an adequate teaching-educational process.
With the restoration of 18 centers and the completion of other minor construction work, the northeastern region reached 93 percent of its school infrastructure evaluated as good. Representing approximately 1,200 schools for the start of the new school year, Luis Felipe Batista Rodríguez, General Director of Education in the province, told CNA.
Among the beneficiary institutions are the María Antonia Bolmey semi-boarding school, the Friendship with the Peoples Center, the Pequeños Proletarios daycare centers (CI) in the capital city, and Florecitas del Atlántico in Moa, which expanded its capacity with a classroom for 25 children.
The actions are part of a comprehensive improvement program planned for 50 locations this year and include painting facades, re-plating bathrooms, beautifying exteriors, replacing windows and doors, renovating plumbing, plumbing, and electrical systems. As well as replacing locks and deadbolts to increase the security of available resources.
The Pequeños Proletarios CI, dedicated to the care and education of early childhood for 45 years, was the subject of a comprehensive intervention with a significant investment that included renovating the carpentry, repairing the perimeter fence, and purchasing new furniture for teachers and children, commented Maira Rodríguez Sánchez.
In addition, they received modern refrigeration equipment used for food preservation and a washing machine, donated by the José Mendoza Credit and Services Cooperative.
