UJC Recognizes Cuba’s First “Forever Young” Ward at Lenin

As part of the activities held in the province of Holguin to commemorate the 99th anniversary of Fidel Castro Ruz’s birth and International Youth Day. The first secretary of the National Committee of the Union of Young Communists (UJC), Meyvis Estévez Echavarría, toured the Observation Room of the emergency department of the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University General Hospital.

On the occasion, the plaque was unveiled declaring this the first “Forever Young” Ward in the country and the hospital. The first in the Eastern region inaugurated by the historic leader after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.

According to the youth leader, “being in this provincial hospital fills us with tremendous pride and great satisfaction for having been the first hospital inaugurated by our Commander-in-Chief and for all that it represents.

We are hours away from beginning to celebrate the centennial of his birth and for the work of the young people who work in this hospital, leading the main services. I have seen very young people who show every day that medicine is more than science. It is empathy, it is dedication, it is heart. These are young people of whom we have every reason to be very proud. Sharing this space with them today has filled us with great satisfaction,” she concluded.

The Observation Room has a capacity of 20 beds, 16 of which are for hospitalization of cases. That require it in the emergency room and four beds for the Intensive Care Unit. Its history is notable for being the place where several patients with Covid-19 were first treated.

Several young people from her group have earned the Youth for Life status. It is in this physical space where the primary medical care is provided in the emergency room. Hence the essential reasons for deciding to grant this recognition.

Regarding the activities carried out at this healthcare institution, Dr. José Leandro Pérez Guerrero, Secretary General of the UJC at the center. Stated that “as part of the celebration of the national day. Where Holguin hosts the activities for the launch of the Centennial of our Commander.

Our hospital hosted one of the national activities in honor of this date. It was also part of a national sanitation campaign. Where the Emergency Department Observation Room was sanitized with the support of several young people from other institutions, other organizations, and our own.”

The first-level cardiology specialist explained that these activities pay tribute to the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Lenin Hospital. Hence the declaration of the first Always Young Room in the country. As an incentive to the care, teaching, and operational results of our organization.

The opportunity also provided recognition for three young people. Two nurses and a doctor—who have performed outstandingly within the organization. And UJC membership cards were awarded to new members.

The 11 UJC Base Committees at this flagship healthcare center in Holguin have a young force. That supports every process the hospital giant undergoes. An example that young people must always be counted on.
