Approaching its 65th anniversary on August 23rd, the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC in the Spanish acronym) continues its mission of integrating its members into society. As one of the foundations of the revolutionary process.
In an exclusive interview with the Cuban News Agency, Marta Columbié Palacios, an 80-year-old member who has been affiliated with the organization since the 1960s. Expressed that with the creation of the FMC, Cuban women gained the tools to defend their rights within the country. Something that was not possible before January 1st, 1959.
Columbié Palacios highlighted the figure of Vilma Espín Guillois as the eternal guide of the federation. Promoter of various actions carried out on behalf of women and children.
She also noted that the work the organization has carried out over the years demonstrates the presence of women in the country’s leadership and in various social spheres, who have the autonomy to decide their future.
The interviewee emphasized that, based on her experience, being part of this structure has allowed her to grow as a human being through the activist role she has played for decades in her community, instilling values in the new generations.
Columbié Palacios, a native of Pinar del Rio and former tobacco worker. Stated that the FMC’s achievements reflect the principles of the Cuban Revolution. Which from its beginnings has looked after the needs of the people.
