Holguin to Reorganize School Network for the 2025-26 School Year

With the largest school network in the country, comprised of more than a thousand institutions. The General Directorate of Education of the province of Holguin has among its priorities for the 2025-2026 school year the redistribution of specialties and schools.

Aimed at promoting educational quality by optimizing human, material, financial, and infrastructure resources. This process includes the change of use of inactive or underutilized schools and the relocation of technical programs. Other key indicators include school enrollment, teacher coverage, and the distance between students’ residence and the institution. Which is influenced by the availability of public transportation.

The implementation of the process requires meetings focused on the organization, execution, and monitoring of actions. The presentation of the topic to the Government Commission for Demographic Dynamics. And the experimental modeling of the reorganization, among other steps.

Batista Rodríguez noted that, for the new academic calendar, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) platforms is being explored to complement learning. So that both children and teachers can access useful teaching resources from mobile devices.

Furthermore, as part of the Continuous Improvement process, the role of each territory in the training of its future workforce will be promoted. Emphasizing preventive work and the application of science and innovation through the systematization of knowledge.

Among its main objectives for the 2025-2026 school year—which will last 43 weeks—the Cuban Ministry of Education plans to transform the school system. Taking into account the demographic decline, strengthening political and ideological work, and improving the development of principals and teachers.
