The Vladimir and Ilich Lenin University Teaching Hospital in Holguin province applies artificial intelligence (AI) in the institution’s governance processes. As part of programs to improve the quality of care for the population.
José Leandro Pérez Guerrero, cardiologist and promoter of the alternative, told CNA that the tool helps to improve administrative decision-making and manage the availability of disposable and non-expendable materials.
In addition, these platforms make the scheduling of admissions, medical appointments and the follow-up of vulnerable cases through technological platforms for data analysis that shorten waiting times, he said.
He emphasized that, although during the COVID-19 pandemic, technologies were used to reduce the flow of people in healthcare centers. The training of professionals and managers on the relevance of using these innovations continues.
Cybersecurity in healthcare data is also taken into account, which makes it possible to stagger care and implement established protocols. Since they are an aid and in no way replace the work of doctors, technicians and nurses.
The use of AI is one of the postulates of the government management system based on science and technological innovation. Which is put into practice in Cuba with the aim of contributing to the development of health care.
In Holguin province, artificial intelligence is also implemented in other sectors such as education, culture, nickel industry, economy, services and communications.
