Thinking and speaking like the teacher, in charge of forging the character from childhood and the values of each Cuban, was the topic that focused today on the provincial balance of the General Directorate of Education in Holguin, where the performance of the sector in 2024 was evaluated.
The rescue of the school as the center of educational influences with the teacher erected in the function, beyond teaching, of raising awareness among his students in the midst of a convulsive context for the island, must be a priority task in 2025, said Cira Piñeiro Alonso, First Deputy Minister of Education.
Faced with the deficit of teachers, who suffer the same difficulties as other citizens, political-ideological work provides preventive pedagogical attention to the vulnerabilities of society, such as teenage pregnancy and drug use, which in turn cause school dropout, she said.
With the most extensive educational network in Cuba, made up of more than a thousand schools that welcome about 135 thousand students, being the third largest in enrollment, the territory suffers from this problem with 81 percent coverage without the application of alternatives, reported Luis Felipe Batista Rodríguez, director of the provincial entity.
That is why emphasis is placed on the training of teachers and the improvement of professionals throughout the territory, who were promoters of important results, among which the first place in the National Class Event of the rural sector stands out, one of the most affected by the remoteness of the institutions, he said.
In this sense, the municipalities of Rafael Freyre and Cacocum shared their experiences in the creation of mixed centers and classrooms in several communities, mainly for compulsory levels, aimed at facilitating the teaching of classes to students with residences isolated from their places of study.
Other issues addressed were the progress in the productive teaching strategy that contributes to job training in Technical and Vocational Education, where ten institutions from seven Holguin regions established links with entities, which allowed them to earn around 420 thousand pesos last year.
In addition, the promotion of science through research projects, the work on the development of language brigades that contribute to internationalization, the application of artificial intelligence in favor of pedagogy and the progress in the construction of children’s houses, which reach the figure of 24, were learned.
In this new period, which will group two academic calendars, the General Directorate of Education in this eastern province pursues among its goals the debate from the classrooms of the draft of the Code of Children, Adolescents and Youth, and the Project of Care for Infants, Adolescents and Young People at risk.
