
More than a thousand 330 educational centers in Holguín, corresponding to the General and Higher Education, restarted teaching activities today after their suspension by the National Defense Council following the electro-energy contingency and the passage of hurricane Oscar.
Due to the convergence of both events in eastern Cuba, it was decided jointly with the Ministry of Education to recess the regular processes until the current October 28, so that the conditions for re-entry were prepared, Luis Felipe Batista, general director of the sector in the province, informed ACN.
Among the work carried out included the cleaning and repair of institutions located in areas hit by the rains associated with the cyclone and the sanitization of the 28 schools that became evacuation centers for their subsequent sanitation certification by Public Health, he said.
In this regard, the director explained that in assuming this function, they had to allocate a large part of the product inventories available in the territory, which had to be replenished before returning to the classroom so as not to affect the nutrition of students and teachers, mainly in boarding schools.In this sense, the transportation of around four thousand students enrolled in the 60 schools with these characteristics in the province was accomplished, thanks to the collaboration and efforts of entities such as Transporte Escolar and Ómnibus Urbanos, which made it possible to restart the educational process, he said.
Likewise, since this stage is a new start for the 2024-2025 school year, priority will be given to the individual differences, mainly in municipalities such as Sagua de Tánamo and Moa, both affected by the runoff caused by the heavy rains of the linked to the hydrometeorological event, which may affect the total incorporation to teaching.
The director pointed out that classes have also started in those institutions belonging to the subgroup Education-Culture-Sports subgroup, with the exception of Early Childhood, which opened 65 day care centers last Thursday, as a way to help working mothers to return to their daily lives.
With category 1 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, Hurricane Oscar made its way thru the eastern region of the country causing countless damages in Guantanamo province and heavy rainfall in Holguin, the province with the largest school network in the country, where teachers and professors are working to guarantee the quality of the teaching process back to the classrooms.
