Holguin, the land that welcomed him as a son, paid tribute on Tuesday to Army Corps General Ramon Espinosa Martin, who died in the Havana, the Cuban capital city, on September 24.
The tribute was presided over by the member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) Joel Queipo Ruiz – also first secretary of the PCC Provincial Committee in Holguin, and the head of the Eastern Army, Major General Eugenio Armando Rabilero Aguilera.

There also joined combatants of the Eastern Army General Staff, representatives of the Counterintelligence, prosecutor’s office, courts, units of the Holguin Military Region, the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution, the Municipal Assembly of the Popular Power, political, mass and student organizations, as well as a representation of the people of Holguin.
His unbridled humanism, together with his tireless work as chief of the Eastern Army for 27 years, was remembered by his colleagues, as attested by Alejandro Urgellés Castillo, who accompanied him for 7 years as his driver: “Espinosa was an unconditional chief, a chief who did not mistreat his subordinates, he required at the right time, but then he put his arm on his shoulder”.
“I can say that he was a master of military professional life, because with him we learned a lot, our working relationship was always good, I think that there is no member of this Eastern Army who has not felt his loss. He was the first one in everything, he was tireless”, said Urgellés, who saw him work tirelessly even with a broken foot.

His commitment to the people is also attested to by his constituents, humble men and women of the Homeland who gratefully expressed their testimonies about the deputy-general by assuring that in the community he was one more of the people.
“When our children arrive every day to school without their shoes full of mud, we, the parents and grandparents of San Rafael, thank the Hero, that’s what we call him there and we don’t have to say his name because everyone knows who he is”, said with tears in his eyes Amaury Cuenca Prats, who explained that thanks to the management of General Espinosa a bridge was built to facilitate the passage to the school in the community.

Yosvani Pupo Cruz, president of the cooperative Eugenio González, in San Rafael, explained that the experience lived with the deputy to the Cuban Parliament was something special.
“He was concerned about everything, he carifully took all the proposals of the voters here, always worried and concerned about the problems that existed in the cooperative farm, we can say that he was part of the peasants of the area, he was a very humble person, a peasant who shared with us, drank coffee with us, … he deserves this tribute that we are doing to him”, assured the young peasant.
Ramón Espinosa Martín will be remembered as a hero of the people, at the time of his death he was first vice minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces with a brilliant service record. He was a Hero of the Republic of Cuba and of Labor and faithful to the principles he always defended, his brothers of the Eastern Army bid him farewell with the certainty of making true that phrase of José Martí that assures: “To die is the same as to live and better, if one has already done what is due”.
