The first stage of these tryouts, Eastern Zone, was held at the Guillermón Moncada stadium in Santiago de Cuba on the fifth and sixth of this month.

The Holguin players who showed their strengths were the U-18 youths Yordan Manduley Jr, infielder, outfielders Geovelis Poll and Jadier Bonne, as well as pitchers Ramiro Francis García and south paw Fernando Doimedios. Also showing important tools were outfielders Christian Onofre and Andry Agüero, from the U-23 category.

The next tests will be held in Santa Clara (11 and 12), Havana on the 11th and Matanzas (16 and 17), from where around 60 players will be selected to participate in the Latin American Championship (September 28 and 29) in the Cuban capital city.

The Federation’s press release specified that “it will be a training camp designed to offer options to the country’s most outstanding talents, mainly from the U-18 and U-23 categories, without ruling out some from the U-15 or over-23 categories”.

Specialists from Japan, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Mexico, who have shown interest in the young Cuban baseball talents, will be participating in the training camp.
