The distribution of school uniforms for prioritized grades of the General Education is progressing in 11 of the 14 municipalities of Holguin province, as part of the preparations for the coming 2024-2025 academic year which will begin on September 2.
Omer González Velázquez, director of the Grupo Empresarial de Comercio, reported that the sale, which began in early August throughout the country, is being carried out in 226 retail units in the territory, including those in the mountain areas, which firstly will given to pre-school students and fifth graders of the elementary school.
Two sets are assigned to the first of these groups and one to the second one, to which will be added, progressively, the clothing for new entrants at each level of education, who will also be offered only one set of clothing for each level of education, who will also be given a single uniform, he explained.
Due to the low stock of fabrics used in the manufacture of uniforms in relation to the total demand, which includes continuing students, marketing began in Holguín based on the inventory available from previous years. inventory available from previous years, what has led to little variety of sizes, he said.
Yuliet Batista and Sacheli Martínez, mothers of two children who will be attending preschool, commented that the clothes they bought for their children are several times bigger than what they really need and cannot be exchanged due to the limited availability.
Both mothers agreed that this involves an extra expense of time and money, as they must find someone capable of resizing them or getting them thru other ways, much more expensive, but closer to the required sizes.
In this regard, the manager pointed out that, in view of this problem, coordination has been made with the Ateliers workshops in each territory, including those that are in charge of private economic actors, to provide repair services to the families that come to them for a modest price.
González Velázquez added that so far more than 12,000 school uniforms have been sold so far and it is expected that the distribution will be completed in the remaining the missing regions, such as Cueto and Sagua de Tánamo, a situation that took to allowing students wear other garments, that is appropriate clothing to attend school until this problems is solved.
The province of Holguín, which this school year has an enrollment of over 142,000 students, is working to guarantee the good performance of clothes manufacturing and acquiring school uniforms; to reach this goal, the process is being supported by entities such as Confecciones Yamarex and Empresa Comercializadora y de Servicios Universales.
