University radio show La Wawa at CMKO

Bearing in mind the needs and interests of the youths during the summer season 2024, Radio Angulo opened the doors to the university radio show La Wawa, which conducted by Liván Espinosa and Juliette Morales, brings to the audience a fresh, youthful, spontaneous and varied program.

This Wawa has been taking on board new passengers every week who have presented different topics of interest for the younger generations.

The easy road does not leave great stories and these guys know it well. In their first broadcast they talked about the challenges faced by Cuban students today, where we learnt from their guests their fresh hand testimonies.

“Rachel Rojas Figueredo, a fresh man year of Social Communication, shared her experience of studying in Cuba meanwhile working as a computer scientist at the same time. Also present was Amado Abel Machado Peña, a literature passionate who left the university chasing his dream of becoming a writer.

Journalism students Yeema Martínez Yee, Alionuska Vilches Blanco, Alejandro Rodríguez Pérez, María Karla Lam and Miguel David Bruzón, just to name a few among the largest collaborators, are always ready to take their place at CMKO Radio Angulo.

That fact is that this project has its lines already designed, that is why, being at the radio show is just part of their commitments, and they have also met with modern times which drove them to intrude in the internet and update with passion lawawa.blog.

We have seen that what we dreamed of has grown, it is already on 97.7, but we still have a long way to go. But it is good to emphasize that it is the place that allows us to develop all the ideas that we students have cooked up. Now our mission is to make this project seen and produce content for it, said student Miguel David Bruzón.

In their digital site, the future journalists have been able to put into practice what they have learned in classes, photo reports, coverage of events such as the Romerías de Mayo, interviews with relevant figures, information and podcasts.

Liván Espinosa, creator of the project and professor of journalism at the University of Holguín, saw in the potential of his students and their eagerness to create, the motivation to make one of the debts he had pending with him since his university days work.

One of our dreams is to turn La Wawa into an academic press media, where students can carry out their internships. We are going step by step, the important thing is to provide a public space for the development of journalism students, to promote the university community and maintain the motivation of young people to study in these complicated times.”

This program does not go in reverse like in a song by Juan Luis Guerra.  With 5 broadcasts aired, these kids continue to add passengers to their show. If you think it’s too late to join, you’re just in time to confirm your ticket. Turn on your radio on Sunday at 1 pm on 97.7 fm Radio Angulo.

If you want to re-listen to one of their episodes, go to their website and there you will find a summary, pictures of what you didn’t see and the audio available.
