Three players from Holguin are part of the 34-member national youth baseball pre-selection, from which the team that will participate in the Pan American Championship to be held from August 2 to 11 in Panama will be selected.

These players, who are looking for a place in the national team, which will be managed by Michael González, from Mayabeque province, are infielder Yordan Manduley Leyva, outfielder Geovelis Poll and pitcher Ramiro Francis García.

Lugdis Pineda, manager of the Holguin Cachorros in the Sixty-third National Baseball Series, is participating as support coach in the preparation that is taking place at Nelson Fernandez Stadium in San Jose de la Lajas, provincial capital city of Mayabeque.

The provinces with the largest number of athletes in this youth baseball preselection are Villa Clara (8), Havana (7), Sancti Spíritus (4) and Holguín (3).

The Holguín team finished, with 0-4, in fifth and last place in the National Baseball Final of that category, held at the José Antonio Huelga stadium in Sancti Spíritus.

Villa Clara won the title undefeated, followed by Sancti Spíritus and Camagüey, in that order, while Havana finished in fourth place.

In the continental event in Panama, Cuba aspires to occupy one of the first three places in order to qualify for the world championship of the category.
