Holguin prioritizes epidemiological surveillance during summer

Epidemiological surveillance is a priority in the province of Holguin in the summer season, period when the proliferation of respiratory diseases transmitted by vectors or contaminated food increases.

Unfortunately, arbovirosis has a great incidence in the sanitary panorama and in the increase of morbidity in this eastern territory.

The report of outbreaks of the Aedes aegypti mosquito continues with incidence in health, mainly due to the risk of contagion of Dengue fever, which has an endemic behavior in the country.

The mosquitoes in Holguin have found favorable environmental conditions for their reproduction and infestation, now the Culex has also triggered the alarm of the sanitary system for being the cause of Oropouche fever.

The sanitary situation worsens even more with the high temperatures and the inadequate environmental conditions, especially those related to public sanitation, although the current limitations of economic resources also influence this scenario.

On the other hand, street food sales do not always comply with the established hygienic norms; there are still deficiencies in the conservation and correct handling of the products, which are exposed to the intense sun, air pollution and insects, thus increasing the risk of reproduction of bacteria and other pathogenic microorganisms with harmful effects on health.

Most meat and sausage outlets in Holguín run by self-employed workers lack the necessary refrigeration conditions for storage and conservation.

The summer stage demands greater monitoring of establishments that dispense food in spaces with large concentrations of people.

As during this time of the year we tend to change our habits and lifestyle, it is also advisable to take extreme hygiene measures at home and frequent hand washing before handling any food, since during this period there is an increase in acute diarrheal diseases (ADEs).

It is also essential to be systematic in the collection of solid waste, which accumulates and leads to the putrefaction of garbage and, therefore, to environmental contamination.
