A group of companies in the province of Holguin is already applying the postulates of circular economy, one of the guidelines that governs the system of government based on science and innovation in the eastern territory.
Juan Carlos González Leyva, a specialist in the area, stressed to ACN that the application of this policy is divided into three stages, which contain the planning of actions, implementation and evaluation, with three principles of circularity.
These, the executive stressed, take into account reducing pollution from single-use plastics, extending the useful life of materials and encouraging recycling and reuse, taking into account sustainable development and 88 high-impact results are accounted for.
Among the achievements, the Hotel Iberostar Holguín stands out with an 83 percent reduction in the use of plastic containers, as a result of the installation of a water treatment plant, which allows greater accessibility to drinking water and therefore fewer bottles of this highly polluting material.

In addition, the Cristino Naranjo Agro-sugar Company has a higher yield of each variety planted, from the recovery of liquid waste for irrigation or fertigation, avoiding the pollution of rivers and lakes, he said.
For their part, the Turquino Vegetable and Canned Food Company and the Meat Processing Plant have contributed with new foods for pork mass and the substitution of nylon for natural casing in the manufacture of blood sausage, respectively.
Holguín also promotes the training of cadres and specialists on this subject, which allows implementing the law in force, in correspondence with the postulates established by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.
