The II Symposium of Social Sciences and Arts, ConcienciArte, will be held in Holguin on July 11 and 12 with more than 50 lectures and 70 delegates from different Cuban provinces, in the on-site and virtual modalities.
The event, sponsored by the Centro Provincial de Superación para la Cultura, the Dirección Provincial de Cultura and the university publishing house Conciencia Ediciones, has as its main objective to socialize the results of research by artists, academics, directors, students, entrepreneurs and cultural managers around 21 thematic lines, including “Memory and Nation”, “People’s and Local Culture, a Look at Resistance”; and “University vs Business and Tourism in a Tourist Destination”.
The Deputy Director of the Provincial Center of Improvement for Culture, Valia Pérez Martínez, highlighted the lessons learned from the First ConcienciArte Symposium, held in Holguín on July 13 and 14, 2023.
From that first edition to this second one we have learned a lot: to work as a team; to interact more with the academic committee in the reception of the works, that they are under the norms that they demand to achieve the dream that is the publication of that book; to go inserting new thematic lines, for example, now the one of University versus Company. For this second edition we have gained in organization and also in prestige.
Perez Martinez also noted that it is positive to have professors and PhDs from the University of Holguin interested on participating in this event.
We dream that, for future editions, we can have a workshop with new local entrepreneurs, where they can talk about their experiences, and conceptualize all this; in that way the objective of the event would be fulfilled.
He assured that ConcienciArte is the space that teachers have to socialize their work.
We are making a small contribution to the cultural historiography of our region. We want the artist, in addition to being an excellent musician or an excellent dancer, to be able to reach this other part, the teaching and academic part; to leave on record everything he has learned over the years, because if not, then we lose all these stories and what we are trying to do is that, to socialize, visualize, promulgate everything we are doing.
In addition to the work in commissions, the program of the Symposium includes the opening lecture by PhD. Alejandro Torres Gómez from Cádiz Hernandez, the pre-event workshop “Publication in electronic journals: new challenges for the academic community”, given by M.Sc. Minelis Tamayo Megret and Anabel La O Bacallao, the group Entre Adoquines, the panel of Conciencia Ediciones, the space Figuras de Tinta and the presentations of the folkloric company La Campana, Palabras al Viento, the Guitar Orchestra, the Orígenes project and the soloist Marien Hernández.
On this occasion, ConcienciArte will be dedicated to the tenth anniversary of Conciencia Ediciones, publishing house of the University of Holguin, and to the research and teaching work of the MSc. Georgelina Miranda Pelaez.
The Centro de Superación para la Cultura has the task of training professionals of this guild in the whole province, and among its functions is also the research and scientific work related to cultural processes and social sciences as essential support of the concrete activity of the sector.
