Holguín La O Terrero wins half marathon in Germany

Yuleidi La O Terrero, from Holguín, won this Saturday the 21-kilometer segment of the VII Remmers-Hasetal-Marathon 2024, a race held in the German city of Loningen.

The 2023 Marabana champion covered the distance in 1:11.55 hours, as reported to JIT from the headquarters the runner himself and Juan Carlos Mesa, deputy director of the National Commission of Marabana-Maracuba Races and Walks (CNCC).

“Undoubtedly this is my best race in Europe,” expressed the Moa native runner, who enjoyed a previous experience in the Spanish city of Barcelona, happily.

“It’s not my best time (1:05:17). The schedule was my biggest opponent, because we have a difference of six hours with respect to Cuba and the adaptation time of a week is very little for this type of test. You can feel it,” he added.

“The course helped a lot. It was accessible, flat,” added the only foreigner registered in the half marathon, to which he was invited by MD Projektmanagement, led by Michael Diegman, Marabana’s sponsor.

“I fulfilled my goal of being on the podium, as I have not yet fully recovered from an injury suffered before winning the last Marabana,” he said.

For his part, Mesa highlighted the attention of his hosts, especially Diegman, with whom he held conversations related to his sponsorship of the main Cuban pedestrian race.

More than 2,700 runners participated in the event, including approximately 750 in the half marathon distance, according to information published on the Facebook page dedicated to the event.

The Remmers-Hasetal-Marathon includes races of five and 10 km, half marathon (21 km) and marathon (42.195 km), plus a relay race in the longer distance.
