The president of the Gibara International Film Festival, Sergio Benvenuto Solás announced the next winners of the Lucia Film Award during a press conference on Wednesday in Havana.

Benvenuto announced the Lucia Awards, an award given in recognition of life’s work and inspired by the iconic film of the same name by filmmaker Humberto Solás, founder of the Gibara International Poor Film Festival.

This year’s honorees were Manuel Pérez Paredes, Libio Delgado and Manuel Herrera, a trio with recognized performance in the history of Cuban cinematography, which has made it universal.

The winners will receive the Lucia statuette at the XVIII edition of this festival, to be held from August 6 to 10, 2024, in the also called Villa Blanca de los Cangrejos (White Village of the Crabs).

The meeting of artists and their followers was held at the Hector Garcia Hall of the Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry, where they discussed issues related to Italian cinema and the prolific filmography of the extraordinary actor Marcello Mastroianni, in connection with the commemoration of the centenary of his birth.

According to the Cubacine website, the artists present, together with lovers of good literature, discussed Italo Calvino, one of the most important Italian writers of the 20th century.
