Cacocum: Repair works continue at Cristino Naranjo sugar mill

Workers and managers of Cristino Naranjo sugar mill in the municipality of Cacocum, in the province of Holguin, continue repair works to solve the different technical setbacks that currently prevent the resumption of the factory and the fulfillment of the sugar plan for 2024.

For this harvest, the industry had planned to mill 24,643 tons of cane sugar, of which 24,260 tons have been achieved, representing only 24% compliance.

In spite of the problems with fuel, electricity service and the lack of lubricants, the workers are still determined to continue milling cane.

According to Victor Hidalgo Moreno, head of maintenance at the mill, the main problem now is with the valves and the turbo regulator, which is in the testing phase.

José Antonio Sampedro Romero, specialist in turbo generators, explained that the most important thing is to continue working, and added that, expectations are good and that all the changes in the turbo are responding favorably despite the fact that the parts are very deteriorated due to prolonged operation.

Even though there are problems due to the lack of fuel, the power cuts and the lack of lubricants, the workers are determined to continue milling.

This plant was nationalized on October 27, 1960.

The production of sugar cane, sugar, by-products and the world surrounding these activities have been closely related and intertwined with the deepest roots of culture, identity and the formation of the Cuban nation in the political, economic and social order.
