The Provincial Delegation of Hydraulic Resources of Holguín is promoting a sanitation program to eliminate flooding areas and reduce pit cleaning cycles.
George Avila Mustelier, director of Aqueduct and Sewerage in the territory, told Agencia Cubana de Noticias that the strategy includes unblocking dikes, drains, sewers and new connections through simplified systems.

She stressed that the actions are preventive in the face of the incidence of natural phenomena and floods and are among the priorities of the Civil Defense aimed at reducing dangers, vulnerabilities and risks.
She explained that this type of activity requires specialized cars and machinery, especially in residential and suburban areas, which are limited by the lack of spare parts such as tires and hoses.
Even so, she emphasized, the brigades’ manual works are carried out, among alternatives, in less complex and rural areas of the municipalities of Cacocum, Rafael Freyre, Banes and the provincial capital, fundamentally.
In vulnerable neighborhoods of the capital city, such as Alex Urquiola and Reparto 26 de Julio, connections to sewage systems and other urbanization measures are promoted, which improves the quality of life of the population, said the executive.
Also, the water resources sector in the province carried out in 2023 the replacement of more than 20 kilometers of networks in investment and maintenance works, as well as research to optimize the management of land water, among the programs prioritized by this sector in Cuba.
This eastern territory is also speeding up the digging of new wells in areas affected annually by the intense drought and the inventory of its own sources to guarantee accessibility to the vital liquid.
