With his victory this Thursday, FIDE Master (FM) Manuel Dario Ochoa (Holguin) remained alone at the top of Eastern Cuba’s chess tourney, hosted by the Sports Museum of Santiago de Cuba (SCU), located inside the Jose Raul Capablanca Academy.

Ochoa was decisive in the fight to reach one of the two tickets for the Absolute National Championship, after overcoming the local Evelio Amaurys Roll, who until that moment accompanied him at the top together with MF Cesar Alejandro Perez.

The other victory of the day was achieved by MG Yonisbel Rosabal from Granma against Raul Leonardo Lavigne (SCU).

Eastern Cuba’s chess tourney

The matches of Cesar Alejandro with his counterpart and fellow countryman Mario Enrique Dieguez, Hector Luis Fuentes from Holguín with FM Jose Avelino Alvarez (SCU) and the local Brayan Torres with Manuel Charon from Guantanamo ended in draws.

The Eastern Zonal of the science game is played by the system of all against all to nine rounds and at the end of the calendar the two best placed will qualify for the Absolute National, which will be held in this Cuban city of parks from February 1st.
