FIDE Master (FM) Manuel Darío Ochoa from Holguín reached 1.5 points in the double round of this Wednesday’s chess tournament in Eastern Cuba and continues in the fight for one of the two tickets for the National Championship.
Playing at the Sports Museum of the province of Santiago de Cuba, Ochoa achieved a win in the double round of the men’s tourney; in the first match over his colleague Héctor Luis Fuentes, and in the closing game drew off FM Brayan Torres from Santiago de Cuba.
After these results, Ochoa, the highest ranked player of the tournament with 2,399 points, remains second in the standing together with other three players (four points).
The top now belongs to FM Cesar Alejandro Perez (4.0), who won two straight matches, to replace Evelio Amaurys Roll (4.0) from Santiago de Cuba – until then leader that dropped to third place, after his draw in the day.
On the other hand, the provincial champion of Holguín, Héctor Luis, after his setback off Manuel Darío drew vs MF Yonisbel Rosabal from Granma and continues to lag behind, in the eighth place with 2.0 points.
