Holguin players make their debut tourney for Men

With different outcomes but with the same score concluded this Sunday Holguin FIDE Master (MF), respectively, Manuel Dario Ochoa and Hector Luis Fuentes, in the first date of the country’s eastern chess tournament for men, hosted by the Sports Museum of Santiago de Cuba.

Manuel Dario, first pre-qualified with 2,399 points, won the opening game over his counterpart from Las Tunas, Cesar Alejandro Perez, and at the end he lost to the local Raul Leonardo Lavigne.

On the other hand, Hector Luis, provincial champion of Holguin, divided the point in his two matches, in both cases against FIDE Masters, in the first one against Brayan Torres from Santiago de Cuba and in the second one against Manuel Charon from Guantanamo.

The country’s eastern chess tournament game for men is played by the system of all against all to nine rounds and at the end of the calendar the two best placed will qualify for the Absolute National event, which will be held in Holguin, the nickname Cuban City of the Parks.

Fuentes, new provincial chess champion (men) in Holguín

The Provincial Expert (EP) Hector Luis Fuentes was crowned as the new chess champion in Holguin, event that took place at Eradio Dominguez academy of this discipline, located in the Cuban City of the Parks.

Fuentes defeated in the seventh and last round the until then leader, his peer Miguel Gelasio Sanchez, and forced a quadruple tie at the top of the event, together with National Master (MN) Yudel Romero and FIDE Master (FM) Reyson Ricardo, all with 4.5 units.
