Holguin Culture Week on the doorstep

Considered the biggest celebration of the local culture and the oldest cultural event of the nicknamed Cuban City of the Parks, the Holguin Culture Week will begin next Monday 15 and will extend until January 20 with a wide program that will offer exhibitions, fairs, debates of thought and the most faithful popular traditions.

As explained in a press conference by Odalis Del Monte, director of the Municipal Sectorial of Culture, they have a program of 110 activities, which starts on the 15th with the constitution of the jury of the City Award, in the Revolution Square Calixto Garcia, and the realization of the inaugural parade, under the direction of Victor Osorio, with a different characteristic this year because in the parade will be presented 21 demarcations of the province with their cultural achievements, in addition to the artistic units of the municipality.

Dedicated in this edition to Liudmila Pérez López, director of the Rodrigo Prats Lyric Theater, to the outstanding historian Ernel Pérez Concepción, and to the 190th anniversary of the birth of local hero Julio Grave de Peralta, this festival of Holguin’s traditions will again host its traditional spaces along with others that are added such as the First Colloquium of Artistic and Literary Criticism, a novelty in the Lalita Curbelo cultural center, in addition to the activities in neighborhoods of Holguin.

Del Monte informed that the Fair of Traditions will change its scenario for the first time as it will be held in the Vega del Pason, in the neighborhood of Pedernales; the Book Fair will also be held in the surroundings of Calixto Garcia Park, as well as the City Hall and the National Meeting of Studies on the Wars of Independence.

In 1983 the first Holguin Culture Week was carried out in homage to the date of January 18, 1772, when Holguin reached the title of City and Tenure of Government. Since then this event highlights the cultural historical roots that define Holguin’s identity.
