Holguin Clinical Hospital closes 2023 with new consultations

The Lucía Íñiguez Landín Clinical Hospital in the city of Holguín closed 2023 with the opening of new consultations for the benefit of vulnerable patients and those with rare diseases, among the main achievements of this institution.

From the integrated work of multidisciplinary teams in different branches, there are areas specialized in the treatment of albinism and retinitis pigmentosa, in the midst of the global crisis and the tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba.

Likewise, the guidance to families of children with cognitive and attention disorders, linked to the work with the inclusion of people with disabilities in the territory, with more than 19 thousand inhabitants with visual, physical-motor and hearing disorders, is also added.

Ileana Pupo Herrera, a sociologist linked to these projects, pointed out to the Cuban News Agency that, in parallel to the medical follow-up, cultural and recreational activities are also coordinated, included in the integration therapies of the patients, sometimes affected by self-esteem disorders and difficulties in socialization.

She stressed that treatment protocols and the promotion of therapeutic alternatives aimed at improving the quality of life of these people are updated.

At the same time, this hospital vitality in services such as gastroenterology, rheumatology, internal medicine, geriatrics, neurology, among others, and prioritizes the training of specialists, said Dr. Luis Mario Carrasco Feria, director of the institution.

He explained that the health care center also has a service for the treatment of infectious diseases, which provides the advantage of having an advanced system to deal with the appearance of these health problems.

This hospital was founded on November 28, 1998 and has more than 300 beds, while providing regional services in specialties such as ophthalmology and transplants.
