Since the beginning of the year, railbus service has benefited ten difficult-to-access communities in the municipality of Banes, in Holguín province, with the transfer of passengers and cargo, as part of the project of modernization of railway means.
This program, led by the Ministry of Transportation, the Union of Railways and provincial governments, has among its objectives to improve living conditions in those settlements.

Yunior Valentín Laffita, director of the sector in Banes, told the Cuban News Agency that the vehicle, assembled from a Diana bus, meets commitments inhabitants of various neighborhoods in rural areas, including Macabí, Lucrecia and Alto de los Ángeles.
With a frequency of three days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and two departures each, the motor car assumes a route that is extends from the municipal seat to 13 Caña la Onda, with a value of four pesos and a capacity of 42 passengers for each trip, accurate.
Furthermore, he pointed out, that this new medium, the second of its kind in the region, will also serve as a connection for the train that leaves from Antilla bound for Santiago de Cuba in the early morning hours.
Railbus service has been growing in Cuba to meet people’s living standards, maily in rural areas, and settlements spread across the country.
