This has been a culturally intense year, as it usually happens in a city like Holguin, which hosts countless festivals and artistic and literary events throughout the year.
Year 2023 began with the awarding of the National Literature Prize to poet Delfin Prats, received with jubilation by his readers and, above all, by the writers’ guild that had acclaimed the award so much.
The 40th edition of Holguin’s Culture Week was dedicated to Delfin in January. And in March, Cuba’s biggest book festival paid tribute to him.

The Holguin chapter of the International Book Fair became a favorable moment not only for the acquisition of titles, but also for the recognition of all those involved in the publishing process.
Days before the Fair’s arrival in Holguin, Ediciones La Luz, an imprint of the Saíz Brothers Association (AHS), had received the Special Recognition of the Cuban Book Institute for the Best Publishing House in the country, out of the 188 that make up the Territorial Publishing System.

With the first downpour of May, the Romerías arrived, the greatest cultural expression of this town that in 2023 reached its 30th edition, with the permanent aspiration of being a World Festival of Artistic Youth.

Producers, audiovisual creators, critics, researchers… returned to Holguin the title of Capital of Young Art, from May 2 to 8, with special dedication to the 170th anniversary of the birth of Jose Marti, to the Fourth Congress of the AHS and to the people and culture of Mexico.

In August, Gibara and its International Film Festival were in the news again, as a permanent tribute to Humberto Solás, who chose the small eastern village to shoot his iconic films “Lucía” and “Miel para Oshún” (Honey for Oshún).
A sea of arts, Gibara, where every summer the diverse manifestations merge with cinema and audiovisuals.

October honored the roots that sustain us with the celebration of the twenty-ninth Ibero-American Culture Festival, a propitious space for the exchange of knowledge on culture and regional identity.

In 2023, the Ibero Festival was distinguished by the tribute to the Casa de Iberoamérica on its 30th anniversary. This institution, based in Holguin, emerged as an initiative of the then Minister of Culture Armando Hart, for the development of Cuba’s cultural relations with the countries of the region and the Iberian Peninsula.

Young artists and writers gathered in Havana in early November for the Fourth Congress of the AHS, where they discussed essential issues for the present and future development of the organization, such as the most effective ways to represent its members, the economic incentive to promote projects, scholarship systems, awards and events, contributions to the cultural programming of each province, as well as the role of young creators in the construction of a better Cuban society, despite the crisis affecting the country.
The great meeting of the young artistic vanguard was attended by 7 delegates from different artistic manifestations and 4 guests, among them, the director of the Casa del Joven Creador and the editor-in-chief of the literary label Ediciones La Luz, representing more than 200 members from Holguin.

The echoes of the National Cuban Radio Festival also resound from November. After more than a decade without being held, Holguin was the center of discussions among more than 200 filmmakers. Eight personalities of the medium recognized with the National Radio Award visited the city of parks to recognize the best creations.

The year 2024, which already naers, promises to be another year full of cultural events for our province, which Radio Angulo will undoubtedly follow closely through its regular programming and digital platforms.
