Holguin province baseball: 4 teams a match away to the semifinals   

With their victories this Saturday, the teams Sultanes, Cafetaleros, Piratas and Alegres, participants in the provincial baseball championship in Holguín, were one step away from the semifinals of the XLVI Provincial Baseball Series.

Defending champions Sultanes of Holguín, after traveling a long journey of almost 200 kilometers, smiled first in the postseason of the provincial baseball quarter finals, palyinf at Ángel Romero stadium, and grabbed the win over local squad Mineros of Moa, with a score of 18×15 runs, where the winners produced 25 hits and made two errors, while the losers achieved 17 hits and made four errors.

The win went to reliever Jesús Quintán, thrower José Manuel Rivas saved. Yeral Sanamé lost.

For the winning team, Jolber Naranjo (4-6) with a double, a triple, a home run and five runs batetd in, – the best offensive player-.

For his part Diego González, (3- 6), with a triple, a homer and three runs batted in, also stood out.

Luis Daniel Corona of Moa produced two homers in four turns and drove in four runs.

In the beginning of the quarterfinals, Cafetaleros of Sagua de Tánamo, as visitors at the Rogelio Pupo stadium in San Germán, defeated the Colosos of “Urbano Noris” 2×1.

The winners produced seven hits and made an error and the losers produced four hits and made no erros.

The victory went to Orleydis Cuba, save for Daniel Espinosa and in the offensive Yorlis Bravo (3-3), a run drove in, and Ronny Vargas (3-3) stood out. The setback went to Yusmel Velázquez.

The Piratas of Gibara, also as visitors, defeated the Vaqueros of the municipality of Calixto García 4×3 at the “Orlando Proeza Vera” of Buenaventura, with a smile for Luis Chacón and a defeat for Guillermo Bertolí.

The visitors made two errors, but produced thirteen hits with the outstanding contribution by Osmani García (3-3) and a run batted in; Yulián Concepción (3-4) and drove in the victory run in the seventh inning, and Earles Hernández (4-3) and a run batted in. The defeated team produced ten hits and made no eror.

Los Alegres de Mayarí, the only ones who were able to take advantage of the locality, defeated Tigres of Báguanos 7×6, in eleven innings with tie-breaker rule, at the “Emilio Gómez Bermúdez” stadium.

Enrique Machado, with a long reliever, took the victory in a game where the winners produced ten hits and failed three times defensively and the losers, eleven hits, and five errors. The setback went to Giorvis López, the third reliever used by the Tigres.

Mayarí had its best offensive player in Lázaro Thomson, who hit (3-6) and drove in the decisive run, while for Báguanos, Maikel Rivas produced (3-4).

The quarterfinals, the best-of-two games, will be decided on Tuesday 5th, when a seven-inning doubleheader will be played at the home fields of the visiting teams on Saturday.

That is why the baseball activity on that date will be in the stadiums “José Abreu” of Sagua de Tánamo, “Melchor Anido” of Báguanos, “Jesús Feliú Leiva” of Holguin, and in “Jorge Martín Magariño” of Gibara.

Both the semifinals and the final of the domestic baseball tournament in Holguín will be five to the best of three with a 2-2-1 structure, with double games in the first two days.
