Bucanero closes event on safety and health at work

Bucanero S.A. brewery in the city of Holguin, the only one of its kind in Cuba, was the entity chosen by the Provincial Union of Industry and Fishing to close the National Week of Safety and Health at Work.

The factory was worthy of this initiative for its results achieved in the care and protection of its workers, the industry’s main resource, together with the management, training and qualification of the union.

These techniques and their reinforcement are applied to workers directly on the production lines as well as to administrative workers, visitors and other new workers.

The presentation by Madelydis Jiménez Montero, safety and health specialist at the Bucanero plant, sought to promote the prevention of accidents and occupational illnesses; a call for attention to the magnitude of injuries, illnesses and deaths related to accidents at work.

There it was learned that this large industry has a safety policy based on the management systems VPO Official Protection Housing and DPO Data Protection Delegate, which is mandatory and implemented by ABInBev and all its companies, through the safety pillar.

The main objective of these provisions is to create a culture of teamwork and to continue advancing in this endeavor, despite the limitations Cuba faces in order to become the best company.

Other presentations showed the defensive training also for drivers, another of the groups exposed to risks that in turn are subjected to heavy workloads during the day and night moving more than 30 tons of goods on each trip monitored by GPS Global Positioning System.

The event was attended by safety specialists in each work area and members of the Provincial Bureau of the Union of Workers of the Food and Fishing Industry, who were able to see samples of protective implements, acquired through contracts and agreements that are costly for the country, but necessary for their contributions.

Girdles, extra-strong shoes, phosphorescent vests, face shields, goggles, gloves, helmets, elastic bandages and headphones are just some of the protective instruments.

In terms of communication, there are signs inside the factory indicating breakages and repairs by areas and equipment, indicated with stickers and brightly colored ribbons, with red as the preferred color.

This has allowed 67 percent compliance with the safety pillar, which meets the same number of requirements for approval.
