Social Project improves quality of life of children with cancer

With the collaboration of new economic actors, institutions and organizations from the municipality of Antilla, in the province of Holguin, a social project is boosted to help improve the quality of life of children suffering from any type of cancer.

This initiative is part of the insertion of government programs for the attention of vulnerable groups, which so far has benefited since 2012 about 12 children, from two to 19 years old, based on an ample program of activities held at the local House of Culture.

Yunierci Arencibia Williams, coordinator of the initiative called “Regalando amor” (Giving Love), told the Cuban News Agency that those children once diagnosed with the disease have to change life styles, that is why, this project, where the family takes part too, brings sound recreation and socialization.

Arencibia Williams referred that the group birthday parties is one of the activities organized by the social project in Antilla, but also the celebration of anniversaries of historic dates y and traditional games, the presentation of clowns, magicians, among other initiatives.

She explained that among the people that collaborate are cultural promoters, arts instructors and self-employed workers who donate gifts, sweets, and other goods needed, as well as helping in the distribution of electric home appliances and packages with food, and toilet articles.

Regalando Amor is inserted within the programs of the Ministry of Public Health in Cuba for the attention to low prevalence diseases, characterized by the risk of death or chronic invalidism, with a minor incidence of five cases per 100 thousand people.

In addition to cancer, other diseases are included like Espino-ceberelose Ataxia typo II, Marfam Syndrome and physical or motor impairedness, hearing disorders and sight troubles¸ whose universal and free of charge attention goes from the primary attention to secondary and in the hospital.
