During the Covid-19 pandemic Cuba had the extraordinary capacity to make vaccines and even to distribute them to other countries that needed them, UN Secretary General António Guterres stressed on Friday; which has been one of the many highlihts of the G77+China Summit hoisted by Cuba.
The Portuguese diplomat referred to the Caribbean nation’s capacity to develop its own products to deal with the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, among them the Soberanas, Abdala and Mambisa vaccines.
On the other hand, Belize’s Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde said that the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba is an affront to all the peoples around the world.
What Cuba does is to send doctors, nurses, scholarships, sports, culture and technology to its brothers and sisters in other countries, the Natural Resources, Petroleum and Mining Minister stated, while stressing that Cuba is in a special place in the hearts of many nations.
And if the blockade imposed by the White House and has hit Cuba for over 60 years, thus the demand to be lifted, issues like wars were also exposed, as so did Colombian President Gustavo Petro.
Colombian head of state urged at the G77+China Summit to tackle down on the no difference, double standard war issue.
He assured that it is impossible to assume responsibilities of major problems of humanity if there is a war.
“I would ask the G77+China that we also address this issue to overcome it. Not because we have to take sides between Russia or Ukraine, but because we should compare two situations explicitly in today’s world debate”.
The Colombian leader expressed when referring to the war conflicts in the world today and the positions around them.
“What is the difference between the Russian-Ukrainian war and the Israeli-Palestinian war? And why this double standard to assume a great front of human unity in the Russian-Ukrainian war against Russia, and not take sides and sabotage the possibility of a great human front in the Israeli occupation in Palestinian territory, if it is the same thing?” he questioned.
According to President Petro, it would be important for the G77+China to propose to the United Nations and all the powers around the world that it is time to hold two immediate peace conferences for the good of humanity.
