The investment and maintenance plan includes three major works for 2023, namely the medicinal air plant, the Intermediate Care Unit and the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory. The latter not been repaired since the foundation of the health center. Works also included the change in the painting, carpentry and waterproofing of the ceilings in the cardiology rooms, the on-call microbiology laboratory and at the blood bank.

“We already have the Medicinal Air Plant, that according to plans, should produce around 30 cubic meters of oxygen and the hospital normally spends 28 cubic meters every forty-eight hours, so it will solve a big problem for us” explained Héctor Pupo Rodríguez, director of the Children’s Hospital.

The Intermediate Care Unit, to be inaugurated on July 26th, has a capacity to receive 16 seriously ill children. It is also equipped to assist nine-bed patients with mechanical ventilation, if necessary. Moreover, it was designed in accordance with the protocols of action and has a multidisciplinary team of intensive care doctors and nurses.

The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory as part of the institution’s repair and maintenance plan for this year is supported by 50 million Cuban pesos. At present, progress is being made in the plastering, installation of electrical and hydraulic networks. In addition, carpentry work is planned, one of the most complex tasks because of the need to work with materials such as aluminum and glass.

The outpatient room of Cardiology, recently structurally intervened, provides services in better conditions. It now has comfort, beauty, detailed culture and both medical staff and patients are very pleased with the renovation of the premises.

The revitalization of these facilities is intended to improve the stay and comfort of pediatric patients and their companions, a way to favorably affect the quality of services in Holguin.
