The ninth Regional Forum on Arterial Hypertension and Associated Diseases and the seventh Workshop on Medical Emergencies are being held virtually this June at the University of Medical Sciences of Holguín.
Frank Miguel Hernández Velázquez, Secretary for Teaching and Research of the University Student Federation (FEU) at the university said that this event is being held with the support of the administration of the institution, the FEU, the Student Scientific Group and the student magazine HolCien.
Hernández Velázquez informed that around 80 works were received, where the representation of the province of Holguín stood out, although to a lesser extent students from all the provinces of the country also participated. For this purpose, several participation modalities were conceived, where bibliographic reviews, original articles and case presentations prevailed.
The committee of experts of this Regional Forum and specialists in different branches such as internal medicine, gynecology and pediatrics selected the researches with the highest scientific quality.
Prior to this forum, four pre-event courses related to arterial hypertension and the different aspects of this health problem were organized. In this sense, the also assistant student of the specialty of Internal Medicine explained that among them, on June 12, the course “Arterial Hypertension.
Generalities, dictated by the specialist of first degree in Internal Medicine and assistant professor, Wilber Jesús Riverón Carralero; on June 13, the course of Hypertensive Crisis: Urgency and hypertensive emergency, dictated by the specialist of first degree in Internal Medicine and instructor professor Yoander Nápoles Zaldívar.
On June 21, Aracelis Hernandez Garcia, first degree specialist in Pediatrics and head of the Teaching Department of the Octavio de la Concepcion y de la Pedraja Hospital, gave a lecture on Arterial Hypertension in pediatric ages. Finally, on June 22, Emergency Obstetrics: Eclampsia and Preeclampsia was the focus of the debate, led by the second degree specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics and assistant professor, María de la Caridad Osorio Mora.
These courses were very well accepted by the students, who had the opportunity to deepen and acquire new knowledge about hypertension related to the different specialties.
Currently, the National Public Health System is increasingly demanding trained and qualified professionals in multiple areas, among which scientific research occupies an essential place. Hence the constant challenge for students of health sciences to develop new ideas and solutions to health problems present in the territory and the country.
