Several Clinical Ophthalmologic devices were recovered in Holguin.

As part of the revitalization of the Ophthalmology Service at the Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja pediatric hospital in Holguín, several devices used by this specialty for the clinical ophthalmologic examination were recovered to improve the quality of the services provided at the health institution.

According to Roberto Tomás Sánchez Torres, one of the authors of this initiative, “the clinical ophthalmologic examination cannot do without resources such as Snellen charts, Jeager and optical occluders, all important elements in its execution. For this reason, the strategy of recovering these Ophthalmologic materials incorporated other centers that take care of the health of our infants and in this way we contribute to the strengthening of Primary Health Care (PHC)”.

Among the centers that benefited from the donation of these modules are the Orfilio Pelaez Retinitis Pigmentosa Provincial Center, the Children’s Circle “We are happy here” and the La Edad de Oro Special School.

Together with Roberto Tomás Sánchez Torres, Maylen Pérez Márquez and David Sánchez Fonseca, health professionals who were interested in providing a quality service to the infants who came to the Ophthalmology office, are the authors of this initiative. In this sense, the clinical ophthalmologic examination is one of the main diagnostic tests of the specialty that requires support in the pertinent technological resources, that is why the idea of recovering these resources arose.

The Snellen chart is composed of 11 lines of capital letters, where the first letter stands out for its large size. The following lines increase the number of letters, while decreasing in size until reaching the smallest, very well designed to measure visual acuity and sharpness of vision.
