As part of his tour of the province of Holguín, Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, General Secretary of the Cuban Workers Confederation (CTC for its Spanish acronym), evaluated the role of trade union leaders in this northeastern territory, in the midst of today’s complex panorama.
During the meeting, and also member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) highlighted the leading role of the new forms of non-State management, such as self-employed workers and MSMEs. In addition, he referred to the need to involve and engage these economic actors through affiliation.
Regarding the process of bankarization in the province, he said that payment by magnetic card is being promoted for workers in certain sectors and that work is being done to dispel the still persistent doubts about the country’s strategy on such a sense.
During the visit, Guilarte de Nacimiento insisted on the importance of creating more effective mechanisms to motivate workers to pay by magnetic card, and of creating more effective mechanisms to increase the number of assemblies of affiliates where the normative documents are analyzed in depth.
In view of the non-fulfillment of key food items, the National Secretary of the CTC that the unions must also take care of these issues, with the linkage to the production farms, in order to supply more food to the people, and to boost self-production in every possible way.
In conclusion, he ratified the capacity of the CTC to be present in the most important tasks that contribute to the development of Holguín, in times when results are required to face the problems.
Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, first secretary of the CTC, also participated in the work meeting, together with Idalmis Serrano Gómez, secretary of the CTC in the territory, and other leaders of the province.
