Cuban Prime Minister wishes success to Gibara Film Festival

Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz sent his greetings to the people of Gibara, who are hosting the International Film Festival, which is being held in that coastal city in the province of Holguin since Tuesday, August 1rst.

The head of government, who is also a deputy to the Cuban Parliament for the municipality of Gibara, wished success to this 17th edition of the festival, which Cuban Prime Minister described as a big-screen festival.

The event, which will last until Saturday, August 5, is held in honor of Humberto Solás, founder of the event 20 years ago, and will feature the screening of films competing in the categories of fiction, feature film, documentary and animation.

During the official inauguration of Gibara Film Festival on Tuesday, the Lucía de Honor Award was presented to actor Luis Alberto García and costume designer Violetta Cooper; in addition, Jorge Perugorría will be recognized at the closing ceremony for his role in the revival and relaunching of this event between 2016 and 2022.

On the challenges to be conquered in the visual arts with respect to gender and its visibility, public policies and projects that are gestated from the graphic, film and theater, was exchanged this Thursday at the Casa de la Cultura as part of the general program of Gibara Film Festival.

This facility has also been the stage for theatrical presentations such as “Meseras” (waitresses), a staging by Alejandro Palomino set in Havana in 1962, with the story of Cecilia and Mercedes.

Gibara gets prepared annually for this festival that welcomes local and international personalities opening a cultural space for debate and exchange of ideas.
