Ibero-American Festival Returns to Holguin

The 32nd edition of the Ibero-American Culture Festival will take place in Holguin from October 24th to 30th. Focused on arts education, the event will feature the participation of 30 delegates from 10 countries.

After a two-year hiatus due to circumstances beyond the organizers’ control, the event returns under the theme “Ancestral Cultures, Contemporary Perspectives.” It will adopt a self-financing model, explained Yakelín Tapia, the provincial director of Culture, during a press conference.

Liliana Avilés, an International Relations specialist at the Casa de Iberoamérica, reported that 30 delegates will attend from countries including Mexico, Panama, the United States, Chile, Colombia, the Netherlands, and New Zealand. About ten will participate in person, while the rest will join virtually.

Participants will contribute across the various facets of the gathering. Notably through studies on the region’s heritage and diverse artistic expressions linked to each country’s cultural identity, such as photography, music, and dance.

The program will utilize more than 14 physical venues and retain traditional events like the *Fiesta Campesina* (Peasant Festival) in Velasco and the Ibero-American Colloquium on Literature. A key new feature is the inclusion of the HG Metal Rock Festival in the general schedule. As part of the activities marking the anniversary of the Hermanos Saíz Association.

Also the 21st Ibero-American Congress of Thought will take place in a hybrid format from October 25th to 27th. Coordinated by Héctor Miguel Niles on behalf of the José Martí Cultural Society, the congress will be based primarily at the La Periquera Provincial Museum and will feature approximately 85 papers distributed across seven thematic forums.

The Iberian Cultural Center, marking its twentieth anniversary this year, will pay tribute to poet Pablo Armando Fernández on the 25th anniversary of his passing. Its scheduled events will take place from October 24 to 27 at the La Periquera Provincial Museum and will include poetry sessions. Participation by local schools and flamenco dance troupes, and a bolero night.

Meanwhile, the 4th Papeleros Gathering will be held for the first time at the El Alba Regional Academy of Visual Arts. Featuring workshops, lectures, and exhibitions that reinforce the event’s central theme.

Among other activities, the Provincial Cultural Heritage Center will host the “Heritage: The Soul of the People” program on the 26th and 27th. Featuring the exhibition *Between Two Worlds* and a children’s craft workshop.

Additionally, the second edition of the “Master Cuba” Bodybuilding event will take place, with 12 national athletes confirmed to participate.

Although this year’s event will operate with fewer resources and a smaller foreign delegation compared to previous years. The organizing committee highlighted that it maintains its commitment to showcasing artists’ work and fostering spaces for intellectual exchange.

Over its more than three decades, the Ibero-American Culture Festival has served as a platform for dialogue between ancestral traditions and contemporary expression. Also as well as a showcase for arts education and local talent. With each edition, it has reaffirmed Holguin’s role as one of Cuba’s most important cultural hubs.
