Holguin International Book Fair Just Around the Corner

Holguin, the City of Parks, will host its chapter of the International Book Fair from September 4th to 6th. This 34th edition will highlight key figures in Cuban culture and thought.

The Calixto García Park and other venues will host the activities. Whose program revolves around several commemorations: the centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz. The Holguin-born writer and journalist Rubén Rodríguez, the 40th anniversary of Holguin Editions. And the 60th anniversary of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).

Moreover the legacy of the Commander-in-Chief will be analyzed in panels exploring his connection to Latin American intellectuals. While the work of Holguin-born writer Rubén Rodríguez will inspire the children’s pavilion “The Garrancho of Garabulla.” The title of one of his novels, where morning activities and public events will take place.

More than 60 unpublished titles comprise the catalog for this event. Holguin Editions will present “The crimes of the poetic profession” (Ronel González), “The fish on the hook” (Rafael Inza), and “Similar to fear” (an anthology by Lourdes González). Also included are “Holguin, capital for a day” by Ángela Peña Obregón. With a recital under the theme “Homeland is Humanity.”

For its part, Ediciones La Luz will present the “Paper Door” award. A distinction from the Cuban Book Institute, to Delfín Prats and Lourdes González. Social thought will be featured with the presentation of the first volume of Fidel Castro’s Selected Works and the book The Cuban Economy Post-COVID-19.

The UNEAC (National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba) will celebrate its 65th anniversary with the “Witness Memorial” section. Also the program includes exhibitions of Russian publishing houses, university lectures, and the regular “Martí Hour.”
