UNICEF Project Benefits Children Without Parental Care in Holguin

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) supports the education sector in the province of Holguin through joint projects. That benefit children without parental care by donating material resources aimed at improving their quality of life.

Aimed at providing comprehensive care to children living in the four homes without parental care in the province. Which house more than 30 children, one of the programs contributes to improving infrastructure and equipment. Through the distribution of various items, Yudelkis Rivera Olivares, teaching methodologist at the General Directorate of Education, told CNA.

The donated resources include essential items used for cooking and household appliances. Such as refrigerators, pots, stoves, freezers, washing machines, and rechargeable lamps. Thus optimizing the living conditions in these centers.

Moreover the project also includes the training and preparation of teachers, professionals, and other stakeholders. Involved in the protection and care of minors, aimed at strengthening pedagogical and psychosocial support strategies. For this purpose, they provided educational materials and informational brochures.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, participating entities and agencies include representatives from the Attorney General’s Office. The Ministries of Justice, and Labor and Social Security (MTSS), among others.

Rivera Olivares added that, with the goal of empowering young people with intellectual disabilities who graduate from special schools. UNICEF, the Ministry of Education, and the MTSS are preparing another plan that will focus on job training, job searches, and their integration as active members of society.

In the province of Holguin, UNICEF is implementing four key initiatives in the sector dedicated to promoting sexuality education, early childhood care, and a new vocational training model for adolescents. Also coordinated by the Technical and Vocational Education Department.
