ERMP Increases Non-Ferrous Metal Export Levels

The Holguin Raw Materials Recovery Company (ERMP in the Spanish acronym) is increasing its non-ferrous metal export levels. Through several collection projects that benefit the industry’s revenues.

Yulio Feria Tamayo, deputy director of the entity, told the Cuban News Agency that exports benefit from the foreign currency financing scheme. Which is why they have focused on strategies aimed at continuing to increase recovery levels of non-ferrous metals as a way to maintain efficiency indicators.

Moreover he highlighted growth during the first half of the year of up to 100 tons of aluminum compared to the previous year. An element of great importance to the industry because its value on the international market is around $1,000 per ton.

Also he added that non-ferrous metals destined for foreign markets include copper, aluminum, bronze, electronics, lead, and stainless steel scrap. The latter with limitations due to its direct dependence on the nickel industry, its main source of generation.

Product collection is carried out at locations in each municipality and sent to the processing base. Futhermore where it is classified according to its assortment, explained Yasmani Sánchez García, brigade chief at the base.

Processing the material requires electricity, with some exceptions. Therefore, given the complex electricity situation, alternatives such as night and early morning shifts have been taken to meet the entity’s plans, Sánchez said.
