A simple reproduction of reality, a good photograph tells a story, evokes an emotion, provokes a thought. It is a fragment of frozen time, a silent testimony that resonates through the years.
The history of photography is one of constant evolution. From daguerreotypes, those unique and delicate images born in the 19th century. To the omnipresence of cameras in our cell phones, technology has democratized access to image-making. Today, anyone can capture a moment and share it instantly with the world. But does this mean anyone can be a photographer?
To do this, it’s essential to appreciate a photography workshop. A workshop filled with aspiring photographers of all ages and backgrounds. Young people with the latest generation of smartphones sharing space with amateurs with high-end SLR cameras. All united by the desire to master the art of the image.
A professional, with patience and wisdom, shares the fundamentals of photography: the importance of composition, the influence of light, and mastering aperture and shutter speed. “Technique is important,” he explains, “but what really makes a difference is the gaze, finding beauty in something casual.”
The afternoons at the workshop pass between theoretical explanations and practical exercises. The participants, initially shy and hesitant, gradually transform into visual explorers. Seeking unusual angles, playing with light and shadows, trying to capture the essence of what they see.
An older man, with an old film camera, carefully photographed the facade of a historic building. A young woman, with her cell phone, captured the smile of a child playing in a park. Each, in their own way, creates a story, a fragment of their vision of the world.
We are saturated with images; quantity seems to take precedence over quality. But photography remains an art that demands patience, dedication, and a close look at the world around us. It’s not just about pressing a button; it’s about seeing, feeling, connecting with the moment and conveying it through an image.
